Eau Claire eyed the roadside plastic bag recycling program

CLEAR WATER (WQOW) – Eau Claire is looking for a new program to help homeowners recycle roadside plastic bags.

Next week, Eau Claire City Council will vote on a resolution amending the work plan of the Advisory Committee on Sustainability to include this initiative.

According to the agenda item, SC Johnson, a Wisconsin-based manufacturing company, is looking for a community in its home state to work with on the pilot program.

It would be part of the company’s initiative to end plastic waste.

The council must approve the change before the committee can speak to interested waste shippers.

A Wisconsin law prohibits cities from banning plastic bags or charging a fee, but recycling remains an opportunity.

The Council will discuss the point on Tuesday.
