Graham Packaging Co. is planning a new 245,000 square foot blow molding facility for containers for Sun Products Corp.’s textile and dish care products, which are manufactured in Bowling Green, Ky.
Graham is spending $ 22 million on the new facility, slated to open in early 2016, on Sun-provided property, which owns brands such as All, Snuggle, Wisk, Surf and Sunlight.
The total value of the project is $ 31.5 million, including the $ 9.5 million private development of the new building, according to the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.
The project includes the construction of the new building and the purchase of new blow molding equipment.
“It’s not the number of businesses in a community that make a location a success; it’s the quality of the companies that thrive there, ”Mayor Bruce Wilkerson said in a statement. “Graham Packaging is exemplary of a company that has earned respect not only from the community but also from industry leaders around the world. Your presence will encourage new growth. ”
This will be Graham Packaging’s fourth Kentucky location, alongside an existing location in Lexington and two locations in Florence. These sites employ 230.
The chamber announced that the new production site will create up to 68 jobs.
“Graham Packaging’s decision to increase its footprint in Kentucky is exciting news for the Commonwealth and Bowling Green,” said Kentucky Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen in a statement. “This is especially true when you consider the impact the 68 full-time positions will have on the region.”
Graham Packaging, headquartered in York, Pennsylvania, may receive up to $ 1.5 million in tax incentives and benefits through the state.
According to the latest Plastics News poll, Graham is the largest blow molder in North America with relevant sales of $ 2.57 billion.
