Injection Moulder, Tool Maker Plastic Design & Manufacturing Inc. expands in Montana
Injection moulder and tool maker Plastic Design & Manufacturing Inc. (PDM) is building a 20,000 square foot extension to its Manhattan, Mont. Facility to accommodate its expanding two-shot injection molding business. The company announced that the new premises should be ready for occupancy by the beginning of October.
“PDM recorded significant growth in 2020 and will continue the trend in 2021,” said PDM owner and CEO Michael Groff recently in a press release. “We expect to end the year with sales of approximately $ 17 million.”
The company has developed customers who need two-shot injection molding services and recently purchased two new Arburg 550-ton machines that are expected to be operational by the end of the year.
Groff also announced that the company is restructuring its leadership team. Groff becomes Chairman and is replaced as President by the current CFO Randy Scheid. Jim Smith has been named Vice President of Engineering and Operations in Montana and Sam Lazcano has been named Vice President of Mexico Operations (PDM MX S de RL de CV).
PDM employs 180 in Montana, Mexico and China. It was founded in 1998 to provide offshore, turnkey tool and product development. In 2009 it established its headquarters in Montana and started injection molding there. In 2015, the company expanded to Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, invested $ 500,000 to open an injection molding, assembly and tooling facility, and shared resources with a local company, Advanced Molding Technology.
PDM serves the consumer, hardware, recreational, communications, home appliance, and pet supplies markets. Products include plastic food and drink plates, rifle ammo magazines, PVC pipe joints, fishing nets, and socket covers.
