InvestChile is looking for investors for Chile’s plastics recycling industry

Santiago, Chile, September 7, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Chile urgently needs to increase its plastics recycling capabilities, which opens up significant business opportunities for foreign companies. This topic will be discussed in the online event “Plastic Recycling Infrastructure: Investment Opportunities in Chile“This is taking place Thursday September 9th. Recycling infrastructure Chile

Chile produces more than 1.2 million tons of plastic per year, of which only 7% is recycled. Of all recycled plastics, 17% is household waste and 83% is non-household waste.

New Chilean regulations make it necessary to increase the country’s recycling capacity and take responsibility for manufacturers and importers in this area. This new panorama opens up investment opportunities in two areas:

  • Capacity. Chile currently has sufficient capacity to be able to recycle without problems. However, given the target recovery rates set in the new law, the processing capacity needs to be increased significantly. For the same reason, investments in the infrastructure for classification and / or recycling systems are likely to be underfunded.
  • Localization. Chile Recycling capacities are highly concentrated in one area, with around 80% of the total available infrastructure in the metropolitan area where the capital, Santiago, is located. It is crucial to continuously expand this capacity Chilewhich is 4,200 km (2,610 miles) long.

The e-book “Recycling Infrastructure for Plastic Packaging: Outlook and Opportunities for Investment in Chile“will be presented during the webinar. This document shows the investment opportunities Chile Infrastructure for recycling plastic containers and packaging. The e-book was developed by InvestChile in cooperation with the Chilean plastic pact.
