Teel Plastics has risen to the pandemic challenge by becoming one of the largest and most reliable suppliers of swab sticks for COVID testing in the United States.
Since March 2020, the company has produced over 500 million cotton swabs for household customers. Based on a recent order from the US Department of Defense, Teel will increase production in 2021 by adding 66 million extruded and 50 million injected swab sticks per month.
The company recently installed two Davis Standard extrusion lines to support the increased capacity. In addition, Teel was selected to create profiles for a proprietary ventilator used to treat patients in critical care. These profiles are also produced on Davis Standard lines, including a new special line.

This required a quick response to support the surge in test kits. Our development style, our product repeatability, and our ability to navigate highly regulated markets were key to our response. Our large manufacturing and development teams, chemists and analytical laboratories are definitely a unique selling point for us.

Teel has a longstanding relationship with Davis-Standard. With more than 30 Davis Standard extrusion lines, some dating back to the 1980s, the newly installed profile lines, extruders down to the downstream, are application specific with controls, screw conveyors and machines tailored to Teel’s swab-stick process are.
Davis-Standard has supplied Teel with extruders and associated machinery in various models over the years to produce tubes and profiles with tight tolerances in various sizes. These machines process a range of materials including high temperature, water sensitive and custom blended resins for products in the medical, cosmetic, industrial pipe, foil core and water treatment industries.
