The webinar was jointly organized by Holland Circular Hotspot, the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi and the Dutch Business Association in Vietnam (DBAV) to promote Dutch-Vietnamese cooperation in the field of circular economy of plastic waste.

In his opening speech, Iwan Rutjens, First Minister of Economics, emphasized: “Environmental pollution is both invisible and visible, a merciless and dangerous internal enemy who wages war against every living being and everything in Vietnam. We, the Netherlands, and their experts, companies and the technological solutions offered are ready to meet these challenges. That is why we are gathering today ”.

During the 90-minute webinar, experts from the Vietnamese Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MONRE), the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) and representatives of Vietnamese and Dutch companies such as URENCO, Sweep Smart, Unilever, Ioniqa, Tan Thanh Phuong, Upp! made their contributions. Our speakers provided valuable insights into the legislation and best practices in the plastic waste management landscape in Vietnam. This ranges from collection and sorting to processing and recycling. Opportunities such as technology transfer, reorganization of value chains and waste recycling systems were mapped out. The disposal infrastructure in general and for plastics in particular is still at an early stage of development, whereby the collection has to be further expanded and professionalized. The need for investment in adequate disposal technology for further sorting, recycling, treatment and disposal is of great importance. In this regard, the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi, the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and DBAV can be the first point of contact for Dutch companies doing business in Vietnam.
