Worker killed after shooting three at the SmileDirectClub plastics plant in Nashville
Nashville – A worker at a factory that makes clear plastic aligners was shot dead by police on August 3 after police said he shot and injured three people.
The shooter was identified as Antonio King, a 22-year-old employee of SmileDirectClub Inc. in Nashville, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
King has been employed by the company since June, but also worked there from the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2020, the police said.
According to police, King shot a manager and two security guards shortly before 6 a.m. One guard was in critical condition, one in stable condition, and a company executive was treated and released on August 3.
Police arrived and, according to bodycam and surveillance footage, ordered King to drop his gun. When he failed to do so, the police fatally injured him.
SmileDirectClub said: “The incident was quickly contained by the security staff on site.”
“The safety of our team members is a top priority for our company and we adhere to strict safety protocols and a no-gun policy in all of our facilities,” the company said.
The officers did not provide a motive for the shooting.
